Steffen Schimko started his work as an evaluator at DEval in January 2021. Previously, he has been active in various responsibilities at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Egypt. There, he was working as an advisor in implementing active labor market programs in microenterprise development and job placement, supported the focal area and cluster coordination Sustainable Economic Development for Employment, and was responsible for the program monitoring as well as the aggregated results measurement and reporting of the sector. Before that, he gained additional professional experience at the GIGA Institute for African Affairs in Hamburg and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Beirut. He concluded his studies of Political Science, Geography and Middle Eastern Studies in Frankfurt (Germany), Halifax (Canada) and Lund (Sweden) with a Master’s thesis on microloan recipients in Lebanon.
